The Gospel of Mark online course is a valuable tool for understanding in more depth what is believed to have been the first of the four Gospels to be written. We explore what was important to the writer, John Mark, as he told his version of Jesus’ story. We also study the most exacting account of the resurrection of Jesus.
Mark gives us a keen sense of what our earliest Christian ancestors were thinking about. Leaving out the nativity story, he starts off with the baptism of Jesus by John. Then he dwells on such subjects as the Kingdom of Heaven, the resistance that Christ Jesus encountered, and the relentless march toward the master Christian’s trial, crucifixion, and resurrection. We meet the disciples in intimate ways that the other Gospels don’t reveal. We also notice that Jesus’ comments to his followers don’t have quite the softening effect that is evident in later Gospels.
The 16 chapters of the Gospel of Mark divide the ministry of Jesus into two parts, which we discuss in-depth. We also talk about the different endings of this Gospel as well as who recognized Jesus as the Messiah and Savior—and who did NOT!
