I Thessalonians, Philippians, Philemon: Bible Study Guide

Description

Here are three of the Apostle Paul’s seven authenticated letters. They are all shorter than the other four he wrote, making them ideal to combine into a single Bible Study Guide.

I Thessalonians was Paul’s first letter of the seven. It was also the first document of Christianity. Workbook questions are intended to help students get at the core of the chief concerns mentioned by the Christians of Thessalonica when they wrote to their leader, Paul.

In the book of Philippians we see a special congregation that has a rare, unquenchable love for Paul, which was expressed to him in the most practical, benevolent, truly helpful ways. The questions the workbook poses about each chapter allow students to explore the unique and collective themes that are woven into these letters. They also give us a glimpse into the generous hearts of these completely new-to-Christianity followers of Christ.

Philemon is profoundly different from all of Paul’s other letters, for it is the only one addressed to an individual rather than to a church community. The letter to the man named Philemon zeroes in on a major issue that was the subject of rampant controversy—especially among Christians—in the Roman Empire: slavery. It shows how Paul courageously fought against slavery with the saving grace of the Gospel.

Each chapter has between four and six thoughtful questions that reveal key themes. The questions are designed to prompt readers to think of new ways they might view such familiar material.

This spiral-bound workbook is intended to be used in conjunction with a 12-hour online study course video named I Thessalonians, Philemon, Philippians. [Please notice that the title of the study guide reverses the order of the second and third books: Philippians precedes Philemon here!]

Thank you so much, Madelon, for this excellent resource on 1 Thessalonians. We formed a Bible Study group at church and met once a month for an hour after the Sunday service. We loved getting to know the Thessalonians! Your study questions invited so much discussion because they were not just literal with limited scope. We learned a great deal by focussing on only one chapter per discussion.

One week we had visitors from the Philippines. They could not believe how relevant Paul’s relationship with the new Christians was with regards to the outreach program they were involved in back home.

We plan to start Philippians in February and look forward to more in depth study together.
