Lessons from The Ten Commandments

Many of you know we’re about to launch an in-depth study of the Book of Exodus, specifically its second half, which begins with The Ten Commandments. So, here’s a very brief thought from this study that has been so helpful to me. We think of the Ten Commandments as a series of Thou Shalt Nots that sound punitive. But they are exactly the opposite! The key is the command stated in the prologue in both Exodus and Deuteronomy: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me (Exodus 20:2, 3).

I have long thought of the 10 Commandments as 10 Promises.

You mentioned their universal acceptance as laws and you brought out the thought that they can be identified as principles.

Thank you for this video…I love the view that these come after the liberation from slavery and as a way to keep the relationship with God at the forefront of thought.
