Isaiah: Pinnacle of the Old Testament (CD or MP3)

$9.99$14.99

Description

We’ve read it, sung it, loved it, and turned to it—this book of Isaiah, often called the pinnacle of the Old Testament. From the words of Isaiah that Jesus read in the synagogue prophesying his coming to the glorious music of Handel’s Oratorio, “The Messiah,” the text of this Hebrew scripture has inspired and moved us for centuries.

This talk focuses primarily on 2nd Isaiah, chapters 40–55, but it also includes a brief overview of both 1st and 3rd Isaiah, the “bookends” of this great prophetic work. The importance of the historical setting as well as the military conditions inform the whole message of the book.

The book of Isaiah’s poetry and prose is some of the most majestic and loved of the entire Bible. Yet it is its messages of hope and  comfort and joy that distinguish Isaiah as one of the Old Testament’s most beloved texts.

We will learn from this talk about the background, history, context, and circumstances of each “author” of Isaiah. In the middle chapters, we will focus on the changes in geography and rulers and the impact those changes have on the people.

We provide a 2nd Isaiah Bible Study Workbook for those interested in studying individually or with friends in a Bible study group. The workbook presents questions for chapters 40 through 55.
